Maria Cecilia Pinho combined for 25 of Lynn's 53 kills as the Fighting Knights outlasted Nova Southeastern for a 3-2 win in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both schools, Friday evening. Lynn improves to 7-2 overall on the season with its sixth-straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn earned the win despite trailing in points (66-62), kills (54-53), hitting percentage (.265-.177), blocks (7-2) and assists (55-53)
- Lynn also committed 28 errors compared to just 18 for the Sharks
- Lynn won sets one, three and five and hit a combined .293 in those three games
- Lynn trailed 11-6 in the first set before a 7-0 run gave it the lead for good at 19-16
- Howard opened and closed the run with a kill
- Two late errors on Nova handed the Fighting Knights the 25-22 win
- The Sharks rallied from a pair of four-point deficits in the second set with an 8-0 run for a 14-10 edge
- The Sharks later rattled off four late kills for a 25-20 win
- Lynn trailed 17-11 in the third set before a 6-0 put the Fighting Knights in the lead, 19-18

Aline Olegario smacked three kills for Lynn's final three points and a 25-21 win
- The Sharks dominated in game four, racing out to a 15-3 advantage

Samantha Wolf closed the Fighting Knight deficit to 19-12
- Nova pushed the lead back to nine and captured the 25-16 win
- Lynn smacked eight kills and hit .357 in the fifth set
- Two kills from Olegario as part of a 4-0 run handed Lynn a 7-3 lead
- Nova had one final push on the evening as it cut the deficit to 9-8
- Cecilia Pinho hit three late kills to hand Lynn the 15-10 win
