BOCA RATON, Fla. - The ninth ranked Lynn men's soccer team remained unbeaten Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over No. 3 Florida Tech. In an exciting second half, seniors Roman Hartleb and Patrick O'Halloran each scored, while sophomore goalkeeper Luca Clavero stopped a penalty kick. The Fighting Knights are now 6-0-2 overall this season and 1-0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- FIT attempted the first two shots of the match through 10 minutes
- Graduate student Ali Koller and senior Lukas Rietzler added shots for Lynn at 17:41 and 21:15
- The scoreless first half ended with the Panthers leading in shots (3-2) and fouls (11-2)
- Hartleb attempted a shot at 53:12 but missed left
- The Fighting Knights got on the board with a goal by Hartleb at 63:50
- Senior Lukas Rietzler stole the ball at midfield, found a streaking O'Halloran, who crossed a ball that was tipped by freshman Oskar Dahlberg and knocked in by Hartleb
- Less than three minutes later, the Panthers had a chance to tie the match with a penalty kick after a handball inside the box was called on Lynn
- Lynn's goalkeeper, Clavero, dove right, made a save, and quickly punched out a rebound attempt right on net to preserve the shutout
- The Fighting Knights took a commanding 2-0 lead at the 74:51 mark
- O'Halloran took a shot from outside of the 18 that curled off the inside of the post and into the back of the net
- Lynn did not allow a shot over the next 15 minutes and held on for a 2-0 win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- O'Halloran, the reigning SSC offensive player of the week, now leads the team with 4 goals and 9 points this year
- Hartleb led all Fighting Knights with 2 shots and scored his second goal of 2023
- Clavero posted his 10th career shutout and leads the SSC this season in GAA (0.308), SV% (.895) and shutouts (5)
- The Fighting Knights have a +14 goal differential this year and have shut out their opponent in seven of eight matches
- Lynn is now 29-7-1 all time against Florida Tech
