BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lynn men's soccer dominated Lees-McRae on Wednesday afternoon, winning the road match 4-0 for their second straight shutout victory to begin the 2023 season. The Fighting Knights were led by graduate student Luis Kiefer's two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Luca Clavero added four saves en route to his seventh career shutout and second of 2023.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights recorded a shot within the first minute of the match and dominated possession early on
- Lynn tallied its first goal at 26:57 on a header by graduate student Max Lambertz
- A long pass by senior Marco Costa led Lambertz in stride as he deflected it past the Bobcats goalkeeper
- The Fighting Knights scored a second goal before the half on another quick attack
- Kiefer outran the Lees-McRae's defense on a long pass from graduate student Ricardo Packer Jr. and maneuvered around an aggressive goalkeeper to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Fighting Knights
- At the half, Lynn led in shots (8-4), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (6-1)
- Lambertz led all players with three shots on goal in the first half
- Lynn's third goal was credited to a Lees-McRae own goal at 61:55
- The Fighting Knights quick attack produced a fourth goal less than two minutes later
- Kiefer collected a driven pass from graduate student Henry Haferkorn, deked a defender, and found the back of the net for the final goal of the game
- Lynn is 2-0 to begin the year for the first time since 2019
