LAKELAND, Fla. - The Lynn women's basketball team picked up a conference win on the road against Florida Southern, 71-67, Saturday night. The Fighting Knights got off to hot starts to begin both halves, scoring 25 in the first quarter and 20 in the third quarter. Trinity Mocadlo and Ella Fiore led the way for Lynn with 16 points apiece.
The Fighting Knights move to 8-7 overall this season and 3-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Mocadlo opened the scoring for the Fighting Knights with a putback layup to even the score at 2-2
- Back-to-back jumpers from Rachel Romich put the Fighting Knights ahead for their first lead of the night, 9-7, with 5:52 left in the first
- Channing Chappell knocked down her first three in a Lynn jersey stretching the lead to four with 5:02 left in the first quarter
- Fiore was able to score on back-to-back turnovers by the Mocs, opening the Fighting Knights lead to 13 with 1:18 left in the quarter
- Makayla Hemingway led off the second quarter with a three-pointer to make the score 28-16 with 8:53 left in the half
- Florida Southern went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes and tie the game at 28
- A jump shot from Alana Francis gave the Fighting Knights a two-point lead before heading to the half with the score 41-39
- The Fighting Knights shot 44% from beyond the arc in the first half (4-9)
- Florida Southern tied the game to open the second half with a putback layup
- Carly Stroemel traded baskets with the Mocs, scoring a pair of two-pointers to push the score to 45-44
- Lynn went on an 8-0 run midway through the third quarter, capped by a layup from Marianna Klavina to put the score at 53-46
- Klavina hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the third to extend the Fighting Knights lead to 11
- Lynn and Florida Southern traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter before a 6-0 Fighting Knights run pushed the lead back to 13 with 2:31 left to play
- The Fighting Knights would go scoreless the rest of the way but a 9-0 run by the Mocs was not enough

- There were seven lead changes in the game
- The Fighting Knights shot 49% from the field (29-59)
- Lynn forced 16 turnovers and 11 steals
- Mocadlo posted her seventh double-digit point game of the season
- Fiore led the Fighting Knights with eight rebounds and two blocks
- Klavina had a game-high four assists and four steals
