Lynn defeats Eckerd, Milewski sets program wins record

UMATILLA, Fla. - Lynn volleyball won a hard-fought, five-set battle against Eckerd (23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-17, 16-14), Friday evening.

The Fighting Knights improve to 17-1 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. With the win, ninth-year head coach Adam Milewski set the program record for wins with his 165th victory at the helm. He has led the Fighting Knights to 114 wins over the last four complete seasons, including this year's 17 wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A pair of kills by Aline Olegario tied the first set, 5-5
- Samantha Wolf's kill gave Lynn its largest lead of the set at four, 12-8
- The Tritons used two 5-0 runs to take the first set, 25-23
- The close back and forth contest continued into a second set that saw 17 ties and nine lead changes
- Lynn took a 5-3 advantage following an ace by Isabella Gentile and kill by Maria Cecilia Pinho
- Hope Passerello, Olegario and Wolf used back-to-back-to-back kills to take a 16-15 lead
- Tied at 22, Lynn used its fourth 3-0 run of the set to even the match at one set apiece, with help from a pair of kills by Olegario and one by Fabia Gonzalez Stanton
- The Fighting Knights were down 8-4 to begin the fourth set but climbed back to even the game, 9-9
- Eckerd followed with a 6-1 run for an eventual 25-17 win and 2-1 lead
- The Blue and White bounced back with a 25-17 set win of their own in the fourth set
- Cecilia Pinho had three kills during an 8-0 Lynn run to take a 22-11 lead
- After the Tritons went on a 5-0 run during Lynn's set point, a service error led to a 25-17 win to send the match to a deciding fifth set
- The fifth set stayed within two points for its entirety
- Gentile served a pair of aces during a 3-0 run to give the Fighting Knights a 7-5 lead
- A service ace by Stanton was sandwiched between a pair of Olegario kills as Lynn held an 11-9 edge
- Eckerd fought off two match points to tie the set at 14
- Kills by Samantha Blahut and Cecilia Pinho sealed the win, 16-14

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn hit .259 while Eckerd hit .228
- Wolf led all players with 19 kills and added 12 digs
- Gentile had a game-best 26 digs and four aces
- Passerello paced all players with 47 assists
- Olegario has hit .500 or higher seven times this season
- Lynn is 8-2 in its last 10 matches against Eckerd
- Milewski has won 17+ games in every season since 2018
