Maria Cecilia Pinho smacked a career-best 21 kills and classmate
Isabella Gentile registered her 1,000th career dig as the 17
th-ranked Lynn University volleyball team defeated 24
th-ranked Nova Southeastern, 3-1, Saturday. The Fighting Knights improved to 13-1 overall and 3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn smacked 59 kills, but had to overcome 23 errors and 13 blocks from the Sharks
- The Fighting Knights won the first (25-21), third (25-15) and fourth sets (25-23)
- Nova won the second set, 25-13, and held the visitors to just eight kills and a -0.031 hitting percentage
- The Fighting Knights grabbed a 13-9 cushion in the first set behind a 4-0 scoring run that featured three kills from Cecilia Pinho
- Lynn later held an 18-14 edge before the hosts rebounded for a 20-19 lead

Samantha Wolf and sophomore
Fabia Gonzalez Stanton posted late kills as Lynn closed on a 6-1 run for the 25-21 win
- The Sharks dominated the second set as they took leads of 8-3 and 13-7 behind five Lynn errors
- Nova scored four-straight points for a 19-11 lead and closed the set with a 5-0 run for the 25-13 win
- Lynn rebounded in the third set with an 9-2 scoring jolt for a 15-9 lead

Ula Gorjup served an ace for a 20-12 lead and junior
Aline Olegario posted two kills as Lynn earned a 25-15 win
- The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair until the Fighting Knights used 7-2 run to rally for a 17-14 lead
- Cecilia Pinho posted three kills late in the set and Wolf had the final kill of the afternoon to snare a 25-23 win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Cecilia Pinho hit .372 and added eight digs
- Wolf finished with 12 kills and eight digs
- Olegario and Gonzalez Stanton each posted nine kills
- Gentile and Gonzalez Stanton tied for the team lead with 14 digs
- Gentile is just the ninth player to surpass 1,000 career digs and she is currently ninth in program history with 1,012

Hope Passerello handed out 42 assists with 13 digs and five kills
