BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 17-ranked Lynn volleyball team defeated No. 9 Tampa in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) on Sunday afternoon at the de Hoernle Sports Center. The Blue and White hit .283 in the win while holding the Spartans to .076.
The Fighting Knights are in command of their own destiny for a conference title, owning a game and a half lead in the SSC with two matches left to play. Lynn is 15-3 in the Sunshine State Conference and 25-3 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights hit .406 in the opening set

Isabella Gentile served back-to-back aces to give Lynn a 4-2 lead
- A kill by
Aline Olegario and ace by
Alexis Williams helped Lynn reach a 7-3 advantage
- Each team traded 4-0 runs as Lynn held a one-point lead, 14-13
- The Fighting Knights followed with a 6-1 surge, as
Fabia Gonzalez Stanton had a pair of kills, to put the home team ahead 20-14
- Olegario's kill clinched the first set, 25-18
- A pair kills by Stanton gave Lynn a 4-2 lead early in the second set

Samantha Wolf had a kill and an ace during a 4-0 run as Lynn led 14-8

Maria Cecilia Pinho put Lynn three points away from a set win
- Olegario again posted a kill to win the set to give Lynn a 2-0 lead
- Lynn broke a 6-6 tie in the third set with a 4-0 run, capped off by Olegario's kill
- The Fighting Knights again broke a tie with a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 lead
- Consecutive kills by Olegario, Gorjup and Stanton expanded Lynn's lead to 22-16
- Wolf's kill ended the match on a 6-1 Fighting Knight run for a 25-17 set win and match sweep
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Gentile led all players with 20 digs
- Wolf led all players with 12 kills and added eight digs
- Olegario hit .600 with 11 kills, three solo blocks and two digs
- Stanton and Pinho each had eight kills
- Gorjup tied a season high with 36 assists and recorded 102 assists in nine sets this week
- Lynn has won in straight sets in four consecutive matches and 19 times this season
