Lynn women drop league opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Graduate student Danielle Montelbano scored 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists as the Lynn University women's basketball team dropped its SSC opener to Eckerd, 60-52, Saturday afternoon. The Blue and White settle at 3-2 overall on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The contest featured five ties and seven lead changes
- Lynn opened a 27-23 lead at the half after outscoring the Tritons 15-9 in the second quarter
- Eckerd took control with a 23-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter
- The Fighting Knights held a 22-17 lead in baskets made, but the Tritons held a decisive 19-5 advantage in free throws made
- Lynn scored the game's first eight points for an 8-0 lead three minutes into action
- Sophomore Trinity Mocadlo knocked down a three at 8:43 and graduate Rachel Romich converted a traditional three-point play at 6:59 for an 8-0 lead
- Graduate Jess Knight hit a jumped at 3:57 for a 10-5 lead
- Three-straight three-pointers gave the Tritons a 14-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes
- Graduate Kaitlyn Parker hit a jumper and three-pointer early in the second for a 19-14 Lynn lead
- Graduate Ella Fiore hit a layup at 2:33 and Montelbano added another layup at 2:01 for a 27-23 edge at the break
- Eckerd posted a quick 8-0 run to open the third for a 31-27 lead
- Romich tipped in a shot to tie things at 32 at 5:04
- Montelbano connected on a layup as time expired for a 39-37 lead after three quarters of action
- Romich opened the fourth with a layup, but Eckerd slowly pulled away after that
- The Tritons led 49-41 with 5:21 to play and held a 53-45 edge with 2:33 showing
- The visitors lead swelled to nine points late in the fourth before winning by eight, 60-52
- Eckerd had three players score in double figures and was led by Chance Bucher with 21
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Romich and Fiore each finished with nine points behind four field goals
- Fiore added seven rebounds
- Parker and Mocadlo each scored seven
