TAMPA, Fla. - Lynn softball lost a pair of games at No. 4 Tampa, Friday, by scores of 7-4 and 6-0 on opening day of Sunshine State Conference play. The Fighting Knights are now 4-10 overall this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Starting pitcher Madison Prickett opened the game with a strikeout and later induced a double play to get out of the bottom of the first inning
- Kyra Sunga and Cameron Buzzell each singled in the top of the second and later scored on a throwing error to give Lynn a 2-0 lead
- Tampa scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the second in an inning that included three singles and two walks
- Sunga once again led off an inning with a single, this time in the top of the fourth, and later scored on Prickett's double to tie the game, 3-3
- A leadoff walk and bunt single led to two Spartan runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Tampa regained the lead, 5-3
- A two-out single to right with a runner in scoring position gave Tampa a 6-3 lead after five innings
- A pair of walks led to another run in a hitless bottom of the sixth for Tampa
- Olivia Lovins hit a double in the top of the seventh to score Aryana Galioto
- Lovins was stranded on third base as the Lynn rally was halted for a 7-4 final in favor of Tampa
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Sunga went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and raised her season batting average to .476
- Buzzell went 1-for-2 with a walk, run and stolen base and raised her batting average to .444
- Morgan Simpson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base
- Prickett hit her second double of the season
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Tampa scored at least one run in four of the first five innings
- A leadoff walk followed by a single, error and wild pitch led to a two-run first inning
- The Spartans scored an unearned run in the second inning and a walk and triple led to a 4-0 lead through three innings
- Tampa scored for the final time in the fifth after a leadoff walk, two singles and an error led to two runs
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- The Fighting Knights had three hits in the game, a double by Maiya Reinhart and singles by Ariana Rego and Simpson
- Lynn is now 1-3 against teams ranked in the top 10 this season

- Lynn and Tampa look to finish off their three-game set tomorrow at 9:30 am, an earlier first pitch than originally scheduled due to inclement weather in the forecast later in the day
