Thompson & Kapic combine for 47 points in home loss

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University duo of graduate Tradavis Thompson and sophomore Nordin Kapic combined to score 47 points in an 87-79 loss to Florida Southern, Saturday. The Fighting Knights settle at 14-8 overall and 9-7 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Mocs are 19-7 and 13-4.
 
Prior to tip-off, the Lynn department of athletics honored head coach Jeff Price for 15 seasons at the helm of the program that includes over 250 wins, four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances with a final four trip in 1996-97.
 
Price announced he was stepping away from the program following the 2023-24 season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs outscored the Fighting Knights 43-42 in the first half and 44-37 in the second
- The contest featured 16 leads changes and seven ties
- Florida Southern shot 37-of-72 (51.4%) from the floor, while Lynn finished at 29-of-67 (43.3%)
- Lynn knocked down 13 three-pointers compared to just three for the visitors
- The Fighting Knights opened the second half on a 12-2 run that handed them a 54-45 lead
- Kapic hit two three-pointers and graduate Ben Gahlert hit his own three during the outburst
- Florida Southern rebounded to tie things at 54 at 13:39
- Neither team led by more than two over the next seven minutes until the Mocs used a 12-0 run to lead 81-69 with 3:04 to play
- A three-pointer from graduate Brad McCabe started a run that trimmed the deficit to four, 83-79 with just 21 seconds to play
- Four free throws down the stretch sealed the win for Florida Southern
- Thompson capped a run in the first half with a three at 11:13 that helped Lynn to an early 27-17 advantage
- Thompson hit another three with 6:06 to play as Lynn led 36-32
- The Mocs closed out the first half with a layup and a jumper for the slim 43-42 halftime cushion
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Thompson led all players with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting with four three-pointers
- He also added seven assists and four rebounds
- Kapic was 8-of-20 with three three-pointers and four boards
- Gahlert added his eighth double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds
- McCabe finished with 11 points
