Men’s lacrosse drops Ala.-Huntsville in 2OT

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Graduate Joe Michalski found the net just over a minute into the second overtime period to lift the Lynn University men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 win over Alabama-Huntsville, Saturday at Mercer University.
 
The victory is the first of the season for the Fighting Knights as they are now 1-2, while the Chargers settle at 3-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights outshot Huntsville 36-27, led 37-29 in ground balls and won 14-of-26 faceoffs
- Lynn was 15-of-19 on clear attempts and caused 11 turnovers
- Graduate Scott Friant scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter to hand Lynn a 10-5 lead with 6:10 left
- The Chargers then rattled off five-consecutive goals over the next 13:25 to even the score at 10 with 7:25 left in regulation
- Junior Connor Houston ended the run with a goal at 6:44 off a pass from Michalski
- David Friend of Huntsville sent the game into OT with an unassisted tally with 5:44 left in the fourth quarter
- Graduate Jalen Stanton attempted Lynn's only shot in the first OT and it was saved by Charger keeper Tommy Peer
- On the other end of the field, Fighting Knight  sophomore Tristan Lenard made two saves in the first extra period
- In the second OT, junior Camren Santos won the faceoff and scooped up the ground ball to set up Michalski's game-winner
- Stanton scored three first-quarter goals to help Lynn to a 5-2 lead following the opening frame
- Stanton and Houston each scored in the second quarter to help the Fighting Knights to a 8-4 lead at intermission
- Friant's goals at 8:20 and 6:10 increased the lead to 10-5 before the nail-biting finish
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Stanton (four goals/one assist) and Michalski (two goals/three assists) led the charge with five points each
- Graduate Thomas Murray handed out three assists
- Friant and Houston added two goals apiece, while graduate Brian Hoskins scored once and handed out one assist
- Lenard notched 11 saves with nine ground balls for the win in goal
- Junior Charlie Shannon won 8-of-12 faceoffs, while junior Matthew Canedo caused five turnovers
