BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University softball team dropped a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader to Eckerd at home, Saturday. The Fighting Knights settle at 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The visitors took the opener 10-2
- Eckerd jumped out to an 4-0 cushion behind two runs in both the third and fourth innings
- In the sixth, the Tritons tacked on four more runs to extend the lead to 8-0
- Lynn got on the board in the home half of the sixth
- Faith Miller drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a single from Anabel O'Donnell
- The single and RBI marked the first of O'Donnell's collegiate career
- Eckerd added two more in the top of the seventh to grab a 10-1 advantage
- Josey Sumpter led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk
- She advanced to second on an error and ended up on third following a walk
- Sumpter scored the game's final run on Ashlee Martinez's sacrifice fly to right field
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Morgan Simpson finished with two hits and stole her conference-leading 17th base of the season
- Kyra Sunga went 1-for-2
- Haley Fardanesh tossed 2.1 innings and allowed two runs
- Kayley Zazzali pitched the final 5.0 innings and surrendered eight runs (four earned)
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Lynn endured a 10-1 defeat in the second game
- Eckerd jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the nightcap behind a five-run second inning
- The Tritons added five more runs in the fifth inning for a 10-0 cushion
- Lynn plated its only run in the bottom of the fifth
- Simpson led off the frame with a single and she advanced to second when Eliza Gonzalez walked
- Monique Poitevin singled to drive home Simpson
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Simpson finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and is now hitting .379 this season
- Poitevin went 2-for-3 with an RBI
- Riley, Sunga, Sumpter and Miller each added a hit
- Madison Prickett took the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing five earned runs
- Ariana Rego tossed the final 3.1 innings, striking out three and allowing five earned runs
