BOCA RATON, Fla. – Juniors Malory Jarka and
Kristyn Johnson, along with sophomore
Rebecca Clark each registered three points as the No. 20 Lynn University women's lacrosse team opened Sunshine State Conference play with a 17-7 defeat to No. 7 Rollins, Sunday. The Fighting Knights settle at 1-1 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn outshot the Tars 28-26 and caused 15 turnovers from the visitors
- Rollins held a 17-10 lead in draw controls and scored on 6-of-8 free position attempts
- The Fighting Knights finished 13-of-15 on clear attempts and limited Rollins to just 16-of-24 clears
- Johnson opened the game with a goal off an assist from Jarka just 21 seconds into play
- The Tars rattled off the next six goals over a nearly 10-minute stretch for a 6-1 lead with 4:29 to play in the first quarter
- Sophomore Elizabeth Claggett closed the first quarter with a goal and Johnson opened the second with a score to trim the deficit to 6-3
- Rollins added two more scores before Clark scored back-to-back goals to make the count 8-5 early in the third period
- The Tars scored nine of the game's final 11 goals
- Claggett scored early in the fourth and Jarka scored Lynn's final goal with 5:27 to play
