MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - A five-run first inning and and a three-run seventh inning helped Lynn defeat Tusculum, 8-7, Saturday night. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played at Lynn in the afternoon, was moved to St. Thomas due to weather concerns.
The Fighting Knights are now 4-0 in 2024.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Tusculum scored a run in the top of the first but Lynn responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning
- Shawn Dougherty hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Deric LaMontagne
- With the bags full, Cole Fowler hit a bases-clearing triple scoring Jesse Robinson, David Judge and Leon Paulino
- Fowler crossed the plate on an error
- Tusculum tied the game, 5-5, with four runs in the third and took the lead, 7-5, with two runs in the fourth
- A three-run seventh rallied the Fighting Knights to an 8-7 lead
- DJ Flowers doubled and later scored on a LaMontagne single
- Paulino drove home AJ Orrico with a single
- Judge's sac bunt advanced LaMontagne to third and Dougherty drove home LaMontagne in the next at bat
- Tusculum went down in order in the ninth for a Fighting Knight win
- Noah Lucia pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win
