BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn women's basketball dropped its conference match with Palm Beach Atlantic, 59-50, Wednesday night. The Fighting Knights held a brief lead in the third quarter before the Sailfish went on a run and held the lead for the final 14 minutes. Trinity Mocadlo led the Fighting Knights with 15 points, while Ella Fiore grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in the loss.
Lynn is 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Marianna Klavina's steal led to the first points of the game, an Ella Fiore layup
- Carly Stroemel tied the game at seven on a layup with 5:23 remaining in the first quarter
- The Sailfish closed the first on a 5-0 run to lead 14-9 through one quarter
- Makayla Hemingway opened the second quarter with a deep three-pointer
- With 1:43 left in the second period, Trinity Mocadlo knocked down a three to cut Lynn's deficit to five, 22-17
- A low scoring second quarter saw just 19 total points as PBA led by two, 22-20
- Fiore's three-pointer made the score 24-23 just over a minute into the third quarter
- Klavina followed with a three to put the Fighting Knights up by two
- PBA went on a 7-0 run to take a five-point lead, 31-26, with 3:56 showing in the third quarter
- Lynn shot 62% in the fourth quarter while PBA went 67% from the field
- Mocadlo and PBA's Jillian Schenk traded back-to-back threes as the road team led 46-39 with 3:57 remaining
- Stroemel made a layup and a three-pointer to make it a 54-48 game with 43 seconds left
- PBA closed the game going 5-for-6 from the line over the final 40 seconds to win, 59-50
