MELBOURNE, Fla. – Lynn softball cut a five-run deficit to two runs but were unable to come back in a 6-4 loss at Florida Tech, Saturday.
Kyra Sunga went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI and is now 18-for-41 this season.
Lynn drops to 5-16 while Florida Tech moves to 11-8 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After
Teagan Riley walked with two outs in the first inning, Sunga doubled her home to give the Fighting Knights a 1-0 lead
- The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take their first lead on two walks, a double and a single
- Florida Tech tacked on another run in the bottom of the third
- An RBI single and a two-run homer in the fourth inning opened up a 6-1 lead for FIT

Monique Poitevin led off the top of the fifth with a double and she later scored on an
Olivia Lovins single down the left field line to make the score 6-2
- Sunga again drove in Riley on a double in the top of the sixth
- Sunga later scored on
Alexis Murphy's single to cut the Panthers lead to 6-4
- Murphy was thrown out at home on Poitevin's double to end Lynn's rally in the sixth
- The Fighting Knights went down in order in the final frame for a 6-4 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn out-hit FIT 8-6, however Panthers batters drew six walks compared to the Fighting Knights one free pass
- Sunga ranks second in the SSC with a .429 batting average
- Simpson ranks fifth in the SSC with a .417 batting average and first with 21 stolen bases
- Poitevin hit her first two doubles of the season
- Riley and Simpson are tied for the team lead with 27 total bases this season
- Murphy pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and also drove in a run in her only at bat
