WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Lynn softball won both ends of its doubleheader at THE Spring Games, Thursday. In game one, Lynn defeated Edinboro 10-1 in six innings and followed with a 7-3 victory against Staten Island. Monique Poitevin hit two triples in the win over Edinboro while Josey Sumpter's arm and bat guided Lynn to a win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Fighting Scots scored their lone run in the first after a leadoff single
- Lynn tied the game after Madison Prickett drove home Maiya Reinhart with a double
- The Fighting Knights took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning
- Isabella Rittle's two-run single scored Cameron Buzzell and Ariana Rego
- Three straight hits, a triple by Poitevin and singles by Reinhart and Rego, led to three more Lynn runs in the fifth inning
- Rittle, Olivia Lovins and Morgan Simpson started the sixth inning with three consecutive singles
- Poitevin's second triple of the game cleared the bases to put the Fighting Knights ahead by eight, 9-1
- Reinhart singled home Poitevin one at bat later
- Faith Miller relieved Prickett in the sixth inning, closing the game with a scoreless inning for a 10-1 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Lynn's 3-5 hitters combined to go 6-for-12 with six runs and five RBI
- Poitevin tied a school record and became the third Fighting Knight with two triples in a game
- Rittle went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in
- Prickett picked up the win in the circle, going five innings, allowing six hits, one run and striking out five
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Starting pitcher Sumpter struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 first inning
- Sumpter led off the bottom of the second with a single and later scored on Aryana Galioto's single
- Galioto scored on Simpson's single for a 2-0 Lynn lead after two innings
- Reinhart singled and was driven home for a 3-0 Lynn lead through three innings
- Sumpter's two-run single in the fifth inning scored Kyra Sunga and Poitevin as Lynn expanded its lead to 5-0
- Olivia Lovins doubled home Rittle and Sumpter for a 7-0 Fighting Knight advantage
- Staten Island scored three runs with two outs in the seventh but Lynn finished the game with a 7-3 victory
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Sumpter pitched the first 5.2 innings and got the final out to earn both the win and the save (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO)
- Lynn stole six bases without getting caught
- Lovins went 2-for-3 with two RBI
- Sumpter went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI
- Reinhart went 2-for-4 and had four hits over the doubleheader
- Simpson extended her hitting streak to 11 games and stole her 20th base of the season
- Lynn combined for 23 hits over the doubleheader while striking out just three times
