No. 10 Lynn hands No. 1 Barry first DII loss since 2019

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 10 Lynn University women's tennis team pulled off a 4-3 upset victory over top-ranked Barry University in SSC play, Thursday. The Fighting Knight win handed the Buccaneers their first NCAA Division II loss since the SSC Tournament in 2019 and their first SSC league defeat since earlier in that same 2019 campaign. Lynn, ranked seventh in the nation at the time, handed Barry its last SSC loss.
 
The match reached its crescendo when sophomore Jade Marie clinched the tiebreaker in her singles match, propelling Lynn to a 4-3 victory. The Fighting Knights are now 5-1 in the SSC and 12-2 overall this season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Barry took the first point after winning both the second and third flights in doubles action 
- Graduate student Deniza Marcinkevica and Marie won their second doubles match as a duo over Clara Versier and Nathalia Gasparin, 6-2, in the first flight 
- Sophomore Salma Djoubri and junior Greta Schieroni fell 6-3 in the second flight to Viktoriia Dema and Dinara Alloiarova 
- Junior Zofia Podbiol and sophomore Kristen Younes lost their No. 3 doubles match to Maia Haumuller and Margaryta Malakhova, 7-5
- No. 1 ranked Djoubri picked up the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ailen Crespo in the first flight 
- She is now 13-1 and all 13 wins have come at the top flight
- Schieroni won 6-2, 6-4 in the second flight over Alina Michalitsch 
- Schieroni now has eight wins in singles action
- Marcinkevica secured the victory in the third flight, prevailing 6-4, 6-4, over Dema 
- She is now 4-2 in singles this spring
- Younes fell in the fourth flight 6-2, 6-4 to Versier 
- Podbiol dropped her sixth singles match, 7-5, 6-3, to Malakhova 
- Marie was the last match standing and she collected a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win in No. 5 singles over Alloiarova to secure the win 
- Marie now has 10 singles wins this spring
