WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Lynn lost both games of its doubleheader at Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday by scores of 7-3 and 1-0.
Leon Paulino hit his conference-leading 10th homer of the season in the opener. In the nightcap, starting pitcher
Nathan Shane pitched seven shutout innings, but PBA won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
Lynn is now 17-16 overall in 2024 and 5-10 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Starting pitcher Devin Sweeney picked off a runner and struck out two batters in the bottom of the second inning
- Three hits and an error led to two runs for PBA in the bottom of the third
- Paulino hit a solo home run down the right field line to tie the game, 2-2, in the top of the sixth
- The Sailfish scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run, two-out double to take a 5-2 lead
- PBA regained its three-run lead on a sac fly in the bottom half of the seventh and added another sac fly in the eighth for a 7-3 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Paulino became the first SSC player to reach 10 home runs this season
- LaMontagne recorded his ninth multi-hit game of the season
- Avino collected his second multi-hit game of 2024
- Sweeney struck out six over 5.1 innings pitched
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- The Fighting Knights had runners on first and third with one out in the second inning but were left stranded
- Shane got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth inning with a strikeout
- In the fifth, Shane's scoreless inning included a pickoff at second
- PBA had runners on second and third with one out in the seventh inning, but Shane got two consecutive foul outs to finish his day on the mound
- Shortstop AJ Orrico fielded a grounder and threw out a runner trying to score from third to keep the game scoreless in the eighth inning
- Lynn opened the top of the ninth with a pair of walks by Avino and Cole Fowler but was unable to plate a runner
- A single and stolen base led to a walk-off single by the Sailfish in the bottom of the ninth and a 1-0 final score

- Shane has allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts
- LaMontagne went 2-for-4 and was 4-for-7 over the doubleheader
