Lynn loses in 11 innings to Cal (Pa.)

BOCA RATON, Fla. – No. 14 Lynn lost in 11 innings to California (Pa.), 7-6, Tuesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Nathan Shane allowed just one earned run in seven innings, but the Vulcans scored four runs in the eighth inning and the only run in extras. Offensively, the Fighting Knights were led Leon Paulino's 3-for-5 day at the plate, including his fourth home run in his last four games.

Lynn is now 12-7 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Shane retired the side in order in the top of the first
- AJ Orrico hit a leadoff single and later scored on Cole Fowler's base hit
- The Vulcans took the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third on a sac fly and an error
- Jesse Robinson tied the game with an opposite field solo homer in the bottom of the third
- Lynn took the lead in the fourth after Juan Carlos Camarena's single drove home Shawn Dougherty
- Paulino crushed a solo home run to right field to lead off the bottom half of the sixth to put the Fighting Knights up by two, 4-2
- Cal scored four runs in the top of the eighth on four hits, an error, and three hit-by-pitches
- In the bottom of the inning, David Judge scored on JC Camarena's double
- Pinch-runner DJ Flowers scored then on Julio Camarena's single to right
- The Vulcans had two runners on in the ninth and 10th innings but the Fighting Knights were able to get out of both jams
- Paulino smoked a double to left-center with one out in the bottom of the 10th but he was unable to be driven home
- Pop up and infield singles were followed by a run-scoring double for Cal in the top of the 11th
- Ju. Camarena led off the bottom of the 11th with a walk but the Fighting Knights ended the game with a ground out and two straight fly outs

- Paulino is six for his last 10 and is now hitting .338
- Robinson hit his team-leading fifth home run of the year
