BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team endured a 5-2 defeat in a non-league tilt with New Haven, Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights settle at 12-8 overall, while the Chargers improve to 3-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Chargers finished with five runs on 10 hits with 10 left on base
- Lynn closed the contest with two runs on five hits with six stranded
- New Haven broke onto the scoreboard first in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of singles that accounted for three runs
- The Chargers tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh when Tyler Wells posted his second two-run single as the visitors surged to a 5-0 lead
- The Fighting Knights had just one hit as the game flipped to the bottom of the seventh when they scored two runs to narrow their deficit to 5-2
- Cole Fowler led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and took third when Leon Paulino singled
- Juan Carlos Camarena doubled home Fowler and Paulino advanced to third
- Paulino scored the second run on a wild pitch
- Paulino and Camarena both singled in the bottom of the ninth but Lynn couldn't narrow the 5-2 gap
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Paulino finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and is 8-for14 over his last three games
- Camarena was 2-for-4 with Lynn's only RBI
- Orrico extended his hitting streak to 15 games
- Devin Sweeney endured the loss after tossing 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and three earned runs on six hits
- Hunter Shew threw the final 2.0 innings with three strikeouts, while allowing just one hit
