Lynn shuts out Saint Michael’s at THE Spring Games

JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. – Lynn softball split its doubleheader at THE Spring Games by losing to Seton Hill, 5-2, and defeating Saint Michael's, 9-0 in six innings. Lynn held Saint Michael's to just three hits while Eliza Gonzalez, Cameron Buzzell and Teagan Riley all homered in the victory.
 
Lynn is now 3-1 over two days at THE Spring Games and sits at 8-17 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Griffins led throughout the contest after scoring a pair of runs in the first inning for a quick 2-0 advantage
- Kyra Sunga pulled Lynn to within one run with an RBI single in the third inning
- Olivia Lovins singled to second to lead off the frame and moved to third following back-to-back ground outs
- Lovins scored on Sunga's ninth RBI of the season
- Seton Hill smacked a home run to center in the home half of the third to push its lead back to 3-1
- In the fourth, the Griffins hit another homer, this time a two-run shot for a 5-1 cushion
- Lynn brought the final to 5-2 after scoring in the top of the sixth
- Maiya Reinhart singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a ground out
- Isabella Rittle singled to right to score Reinhart
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Sunga finished 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Reinhart was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk
- Rittle was 1-for-3 with an RBI
- Josey Sumpter suffered the loss after tossing 3.0 innings with two strikeouts and four earned runs
- Haley Fardanesh pitched the final 3.0 innings with two strikeouts and one earned run
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- The Fighting Knights scored four runs in the first, three in the third and two in the sixth
- All baserunners reached with two outs in the first inning
- Monique Poitevin doubled and Reinhart followed with a single
- Ariana Rego singled home Poitevin
- Sunga then hit a two-run single to left field
- Rittle's base hit scored Buzzel for the final run of the first inning as Lynn led 4-0
- Rego, the starting pitcher, struck out the side in the second inning
- Buzzell launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, scoring Faith Miller
- Riley later his a solo shot for Lynn's second homer of the inning
- Gonzalez ended the game in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to center field for a 9-0 final
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Lynn hit three home runs in a game for the second time this season (also 2/2 against Converse)
- The Fighting Knights have a .297 team batting average in 2024
- Sunga went 3-for-5 over the doubleheader to raise her season average to .412
- Gonzalez and Buzzell hit their second home run of the season while Riley hit her third
- Rego, Miller and Kayley Zazzali combined to allow just seven baserunners while striking out seven
