Lynn sweeps final day, finishes 5-1 at THE Spring Games

JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. – Lynn softball picked up two more wins at THE Spring Games, Saturday, shutting out Queens College, 5-0, and defeating D'Youville, 14-5. In game one, Madison Prickett, Faith Miller and Alexis Murphy combined for a six-hit shutout. In the afternoon, the Fighting Knights scored in every inning besides the third en route to a six-inning win. 

Lynn jumps to 10-17 overall this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Prickett struck out two batters in a clean top of the first inning and recorded two more strikeouts in the second
- Cameron Buzzell singled, stole second and scored on Kyra Sunga's double for Lynn's first run in the bottom of the second inning
- Sunga later scored on Isabella Rittle's ground out to give the Fighting Knights a 2-0 lead through two innings
- A double play started by Olivia Lovins ended the top of the third inning for Queens
- The Fighting Knights scored three more runs in the fourth inning
- Sunga and Rittle both scored on Lovins' single to give Lynn a 4-0 advantage
- Eliza Gonzalez singled to right to drive home Lovins
- Miller recorded three straight outs in relief in the top of the fifth
- Queens had two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but Murphy induced a 5-3 ground out to end the game

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Prickett pitched four scoreless innings, striking out six batters to earn her fifth win of the season
- Sunga hit her team-leading sixth double of 2024
- Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and RBI
- Lovins went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, run scored and RBI
- Lynn recorded at least nine hits for the fifth straight game
- Fighting Knight pitchers extended their scoreless inning streak to 15 innings
- The Lynn defense did not commit an error for the third straight game

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Monique Poitevin started the action with a single to center as Gonzalez scored
- After Teagan Riley scored on an error, Maiya Reinhart and Sunga scored the third and fourth run of the first inning on Josey Sumpter's base hit and an error by the center fielder
- D'Youville went down in order in the first inning
- After reaching on an error, Kylee Dodson was driven home by Gonzalez to give Lynn a 5-0 lead
- Riley doubled, scoring Morgan Simpson and Poitevin also scored in the inning on an error to give the Fighting Knights a 7-0 lead after two innings
- The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning
- Simpson stole two bases and scored on a ground out in the fourth inning to add to Lynn's lead, 8-2
- Ariana Rego and Sumpter each reached and stole a base to start the fifth inning
- Rittle's sac fly scored both Sumpter and Rego
- D'Youville responded with three runs in the fifth to cut its deficit to five, 10-5
- The Fighting Knights finished the game in the sixth with four runs
- Poitevin hit an RBI double to score Murphy
- Jaelyn Diller's sac fly scored Poitevin
- Rego scored on a wild pitch and Aryana Galioto hit a single and Sumpter scored from second on a throwing error

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Poitevin went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI
- Simpson and Rego each stole two bases
- Zazzali and Haley Fardanesh combined to allow two earned runs over six innings
- Lynn recorded at least nine hits for the sixth consecutive game
- The Fighting Knights set a season high with 14 runs scored
- Lynn is 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts over its last five games
