Camarena goes 4-for-4 with a homer as Lynn wins series opener

LAKELAND, Fla. - Lynn University defeated Florida Southern, 8-4, in the opening game of a three-game set on Friday night. The Fighting Knights were led by catcher Juan Carlos Camarena, who collected four hits, and starting pitcher Matt Tiberia, who allowed just one run over six innings of work. 

Lynn improves to 21-18 overall and 7-12 in the SSC.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The Mocs struck first in the bottom of the first as a leadoff walk led to a 1-0 lead 
- Deric LaMontagne hit a two-out double in the top of the second and later scored on JC Camarena's base hit to tie the game, 1-1 
- Tiberia got out of a bases-loaded jam by inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the bottom of the third 
- Lynn took a lead it would not relinquish in the top of the fifth 
- AJ Orrico singled, stole second and later scored on Leon Paulino's base hit to right field to give Lynn a 2-1 advantage 
- The Fighting Knights scored two runs on an error in the top of the sixth, as Peter Avino and JC Camarena touched home 
- Shawn Dougherty and Avino hit back-to-back doubles in the seventh to give Lynn a 5-1 lead 
- The Fighting Knights added one more run in the frame as Avino scored on a wild pitch 
- After FSC scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, Lynn responded with two runs in the top of the ninth 
- LaMontagne doubled and JC Camarena blasted a two-run homer to put Lynn ahead by six, 8-2 
- The Mocs scored two in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game for an 8-4 final

- JC Camarena posted his first four-hit game and home run as a Fighting Knight 
- Tiberia's pitching line: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 SO 
- Orrico went 3-for-6 with a double, run scored and stolen base 
- Paulino raised his average to .355 and extended his RBI streak to six games 
- Avino has multiple hits in five of his last seven games  
- The Fighting Knights recorded a season-high six doubles, including two by LaMontagne
