LAKELAND, Fla. - Lynn University baseball lost both ends of its doubleheader in extra innings at Florida Southern on Saturday, 7-6 (11 innings) and 3-2 (10 innings). Game one starter
Devin Sweeney struck out six batters while
Nathan Shane allowed just one earned run over seven innings in the nightcap.
The Fighting Knights are 21-20 this season and 7-14 in the SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Mocs scored a run in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead
- The Fighting Knights exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead
- Cole Fowler's single to right knocked in
AJ Orrico
- Leon Paulino hit a double down the line to drive in Fowler, and Paulino would later score on a passed ball
- FSC regained the lead in the bottom of the frame on a three-run homer
- Paulino and Peter Avino reached on errors to allow Lynn to claw back in the top of the ninth
- After Paulino scored on an error to bring Lynn within one, JC Camarena's infield single drove in pinch-runner
DJ Flowers to tie the game and force extras
- Three straight one-out singles in the bottom of the 11th brought home the winning run for the Mocs
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- FSC scored a run in the first and second innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead
- David Judge hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Fighting Knights on the board
- Shawn Dougherty singled and later scored on a double play to tie the game in the top of the sixth
- In the bottom of the seventh, Orrico snagged a liner and touched second base for an unassisted double play to end the inning
- Lynn posted three hits in the top of the 10th but was unable to score
- The Mocs won the game in the bottom of the 10th on a leadoff triple, two intentional walks and a base hit
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Judge hit his second home run of the season and 11th as a Fighting Knight
- Shane's game two pitching line: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO
- Paulino extended his hitting streak to eight games and doubled in all three games of the series
- Orrico posted his eighth three-hit game of the season in game two
- Every Fighting Knight starter recorded a hit in game two
