LAKELAND, Fla. - Lynn softball rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Florida Southern, 6-4, Friday night. Relief pitcher/designated player
Ariana Rego pitched the final two innings to pick up the win, while collecting two hits at the plate with two steals.
Lynn is now 12-30 overall and 3-19 in the SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs hit a leadoff double in the top of the second but the next batter flied out into a double play, as right fielder
Aryana Galioto hit the cutoff,
Olivia Lovins, and caught the runner at third trying to tag up for a double play
- Lynn struck first with a run in the bottom of the third inning
- After Ashlee Martinez walked, Poitevin stole third and scored on a throwing error by the FSC catcher for a 1-0 Lynn lead
- Poitevin reached on an error by the center fielder allowing a run to score for a 2-0 Fighting Knight advantage
- The Mocs rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth
- A single, steal and double to begin the top of the sixth gave FSC a 4-2 lead
- Rego entered as a relief pitcher with a runner on third and no outs got out of the inning without allowing a run, striking out two batters
- Lynn's first three hitters in the bottom of the sixth loaded the bases, as Lovins reached on an error, Rego singled and Sumpter was hit by a pitch
- Poitevin hit a single to center to drive home Lovins and Rego, tying the game at four
- Lynn's fourth run of the frame was scored by Madison Prickett on Sunga's single
- In the top of the seventh, the Mocs threatened with two runners on base, but a strikeout ended the game for a 6-4 Lynn win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Rego picked up the win, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings and striking out three
- Rego also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases
- Starting pitcher Faith Miller pitched four innings, allowing one run
- Sunga went 2-for-4 to raise her season batting average to .387
- Simpson stole two bases and now has 33 steals on the year
- Poitevin went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI
- The Fighting Knights did not commit an error in the game
- Lynn tied a season high with six stolen bases
