Lynn women slip past No. 20 Florida Tech 16-15

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Junior Kristyn Johnson scored five goals and the No. 13 ranked Lynn University women's lacrosse team held off a late charge from No. 20 Florida Tech for a 16-15 win, Saturday afternoon. Lynn is now 12-3 overall and 3-3 in the SSC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams attempted 27 shots and Lynn used a 6-3 scoring surge in the third quarter for a 15-11 lead after 45 minutes of action
- The Panthers opened the fourth with two goals to narrow the deficit to 15-13 with 6:26 to play
- Johnson temporally halted the hosts' momentum with a woman-up goal with 4:03 to play for a 16-13 Lynn advantage
- Tech scored with 3:03 left and again at 1:19 to pull within one, 16-15
-  Sophomore Liz Clagett secured the ensuing draw control and the Fighting Knights ran out the clock for the win
- Johnson scored twice in the opening quarter and Clagett found the net once, but Lynn trailed 5-3 after 15 minutes
- Clagett opened the second stanza with two goals that tied the game at 6-6 with 5:12 left
- Senior Diane Dohler and sophomore Olivia Fox scored late in the second as the game was knotted at eight at halftime
- Sophomore Rebecca Clark, Dohler and Clagett scored three-straight goals as Lynn built an 11-8 lead midway through the third
- Johnson closed the third with another woman-up goal for a 14-11 cushion as the clock turned to the fourth quarter
- The Fighting Knights finished 15-of-18 on clears, registered 16 draw controls scored two goals on four free-position attempts
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Johnson's five goals mark the sixth time this season that she has scored five or more in a contest
- Clark turned in two goals, two assists, two ground balls, one caused turnover and nine draw controls
- Dohler finished with two goals and two assists
- Clagett scored four goals
- Junior Mallory Jarka handed out four assists and caused three turnovers
- Sophomore Callista Elica stopped seven shots for the win in net
