Lynn women rally for historic win

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Junior Mallory Jarka scored 44 seconds into overtime to help the 13th-ranked Lynn University women's lacrosse team rally past 19th-ranked Rollins for a 12-11 victory, Saturday in the opening round of the 2024 SSC Tournament.
 
The Fighting Knights improve to 13-4 overall with a win in their first-ever SSC Tournament contest. Lynn will now travel to fourth-ranked and top-seed Florida Southern (14-3) on Thursday, April 25 at 4:00 pm.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn outshot the Tars 28-24 and both teams posted 13 draw controls
- Sophomore keeper Callista Elica made eight saves
- Senior Diane Dohler put the Fighting Knights on the board with a goal at 7:11 in the first for a 1-0 lead
- Jarka scored at 6:26 and Lynn later collected a 5-0 scoring run for a 7-3 lead with 4:02 left in the half
- Inside the run, sophomore Rebecca Clark closed the first with a goal and scored again with 9:34 to play in the second
- Sophomore Elizabeth Clagett capped the 5-0 run with a score at 4:02
- The Tars rebounded with a 9-1 scoring run that lasted from 1:56 in the second until 9:29 in the fourth quarter and put them in the lead, 11-9
- The Fighting Knights started their rally when Clagett scored with 6:39 to play in regulation
- Johnson scored with 2:31 left and Jarka sent the game in overtime with a goal with 1:59 left that tied it at 11
- Clark won the ensuing draw control and found Jarka who buried the shot for the game-winner
- Clark won all four draw controls that led to Lynn's final four goals
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Jarka finished the game with three goals and two assists
- Clark scored twice, handed out two assists, posted two ground balls, two caused turnovers and nine draw controls
- Johnson posted a hat trick
- Clagett added two goals along with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls
