Simpson ties own single-season program record with 37th stolen base

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Lynn softball was shut out by Nova Southeastern to open its final series of the 2024 season on Friday, 6-0. The Fighting Knights managed four hits as Morgan Simpson tied her own school record for stolen bases in a season with 37, while relief pitcher/right fielder Alexis Murphy tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Lynn is now 12-36 overall this season.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- The Sharks took the lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run single 
- Simpson hit a two-out single in the bottom of the third and stole second but was unable to be driven home 
- Three hits, including two bunt singles, helped NSU score three more runs in the top of the fourth 
- Three singles in the top of the fifth led to another run and a 6-0 Nova lead 
- Monique Poitevin led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit but the game eventually ended on a double play  

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Simpson tied her 2023 school record of 37 stolen bases and is Lynn's career leader with 96 
- Murphy lowered her season ERA to 2.80 and hasn't allowed a run in her last six appearances 
- Aryana Galioto singled and is batting .462 (6-for-13) over her last six games 
- Poitevin raised her season batting average to .316 
- Lynn hasn't committed an error in three of its last four games 

UP NEXT: 
- Lynn plays its final games of the regular season tomorrow in a doubleheader against NSU starting at noon
