Lynn women advance to SSC Championship match

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 4 ranked Lynn University women's tennis team relied on its strength in singles play for a 4-2 defeat of No. 5 Embry-Riddle in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament semifinals, Saturday morning.
 
The Fighting Knights pushed their winning streak to five matches and the victory punched their ticket to the SSC Tournament Championship match against No. 2 ranked Barry tomorrow at 9:00 am.
 
Lynn won the regular-season match against Barry, 4-3, and it marks the first appearance in the tournament title game since 2019. That season, Lynn won both the regular-season and tournament titles.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Embry-Riddle):
- Lynn won the second flight doubles match when sophomore Salma Djoubri and junior Greta Schieroni downed Kaylee Kirivong and J Wira Hadipoernomo, 6-2
- The duo is now 11-3 in doubles action, including a 10-3 mark at No. 2
- The Eagles won both the first and third doubles flights to capture the first team point
- Lynn quickly rebounded by winning the first three singles matches
- Graduate Deniza Marcinkevica, ranked 32nd nationally, downed Laura Cuesta Bret at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2
- She is now 8-2 in singles play
- Djoubri, the nation's top singles player, added the second point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 23 Itxaso Blanco in the top singles flight
- She has 17 wins this spring and is undefeated against NCAA Division II opponents
- Schieroni defeated No. 47-ranked Maja Issler at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5
- She has 12 wins in singles play and is 4-0 in the third flight
- Sophomore Dolores Molina sealed the match win for the Blue and White with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Alessia Tripaldelli in the final singles flight
- She is 8-0 in singles play this spring
