LAKELAND, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback to No. 2 Barry in the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship, Sunday morning.
The Fighting Knights settle at 16-3 overall and now await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 6 (8:30 pm) to find out where they will be headed in the first round.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Buccaneers grabbed the first team point by taking the first and second doubles flights
- Sophomore
Salma Djoubri and junior
Greta Schieroni lost 6-3 in the second flight, while junior
Zofia Podbiol and sophomore
Kristen Younes were up 5-4 in the third flight when it was called
- Barry won the second, fourth and fifth singles flights
- Schieroni posted the closest match of the three losses, falling to 36
th-ranked Viktoriia Dema, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles
- Djoubri was ahead 6-2, 3-2 in the top singles flight, while 32
nd-ranked
Deniza Marcinkevica was leading 6-4, 5-0 in No. 3 singles
- Both of the singles matches went unfinished as Barry captured the 4-0 win
