BOCA RATON, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team defeated the nation's top ranked team for the second time in as many weeks, Tuesday, with a 4-3 win over No. 1 Nova Southeastern. The Fighting Knights are now 14-2 overall and have won 11-consecutive matches against Division II opponents. Included in that winning streak is Lynn's 4-3 defeat of then No. 1 ranked Barry on March 28.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn won the top two doubles flights to set the tone for the rest of the match
- Graduate
Deniza Marcinkevica and sophomore
Jade Marie defeated the nation's top doubles team of Natalie Espinal and Freya Davies, 6-4, in the top flight
- The duo is now 4-0 with all four wins coming in the top flight
- Sophomore
Salma Djoubri and junior
Greta Schieroni won No. 2 doubles 7-5, over Sofia Shing and Julia Moraes
- They are 9-3 overall with eight wins at No. 2 doubles
- The Fighting Knights quickly won the first three singles flights to seal the match victory
- The top singles flight featured No. 1 ranked Djoubri vs. No. 5 ranked Espinal
- Djoubri won the match 6-0, 6-1 and is now 14-0 against DII opponents this spring
- The second singles flight featured No. 47 Schieroni vs. No. 7 Lexi Weir
- Schieroni took the win 6-1, 6-1 and now has 10 singles wins this spring
- Marcinkevica won No. 3 singles, 4-1, after Freya retired due to injury
- Sophomore
Kristen Younes dropped a hard-fought No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 4-6, 8-10 to Habekovic
