Lynn holds off PBA, improves to 12-0

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 19th-ranked Lynn volleyball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic in five sets (25-18, 25-10, 22-25, 24-26, 15-8) on Saturday afternoon to improve to 12-0 overall this season and 2-0 in the SSC.
Senior Maria Cecilia Pinho led Lynn with 16 kills and hit .448 while graduate Samantha Wolf posted her third consecutive double-double in the victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights hit .519 in the first set
- An ace by graduate Jazzy Innis gave Lynn an early 10-6 lead
- Cecilia Pinho's kill from graduate Hope Passerello made the score 15-10
- Junior Aline Olegario's kill gave the Fighting Knights a seven-point advantage, 20-13
- Lynn scored five of the final seven points to take the first set, 25-18
- A pair of kills by Cecilia Pinho and Wolf guided a six-point run and early 6-1 lead to begin the second set
- Graduate Samantha Blahut's kill was followed by freshman Ula Gorjup's ace and a kill by Passerello as Lynn took a commanding 18-5 advantage
- Freshman Lillia Neill's kill finished off the set, 25-10
- The Sailfish opened a 6-2 lead in the third set
- Lynn trailed 21-13 but five consecutive points brought them within three, 21-18
- PBA had set point at 24-18 but Lynn once again came back with four straight points before falling, 25-22
- The Sailfish opened up a 9-3 lead in set four
- Olegario served back-to-back aces as part of a 4-0 Lynn run to take a 23-22 lead, but PBA scored the final three points of the set to win 26-24
- Lynn hit .440 in the decisive fifth set
- Wolf posted two kills during a 4-0  Lynn run to jump out to a 4-1 lead
- Blahut, Olegario, Cecilia Pinho and graduate Nadia Rossi all had kills during a 4-1 run to take a 10-6 lead
- Sophomore Selin Ozdemir's ace led to set point and Wolf's kill finished the match, 15-8

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn had the advantage in kills (67-46), aces (11-6), blocks (10-7), assists (61-43) and digs (75-64)
- Passerello led all players with 52 assists
- Senior Isabella Gentile and Wolf each had 20 digs
- Lynn shot .291 to PBA's .162
