Lynn drops season opener to No. 21 Mount Olive 12-8

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn baseball opened its season with a loss to No. 21 Mount Olive by a score of 12-8 on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights were doomed by an 11-run fifth inning for the Trojans. Blake Mayberry reached four times, including a double and triple, in his Lynn debut and David Judge hit a three-run homer in his first at bat of the season in the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A double play ended the top of the first after Mason Tinsley strikeout and Juan Carlos Camarena caught stealing
- With two outs and two runners on, David Judge pulled a pitch over the left field fence to score Blake Mayberry and Leon Paulino for a 3-0 Fighting Knight lead
- Tinsley struck out the side in the top of the second
- Tinsley induced an inning-ending double play to face the minimum in the third inning
- The Trojans scored an unearned run in the fourth inning as Lynn led 3-1 after four
- A three-run homer and grand slam sparked an 11-run top of the fifth inning as Mount Olive opened the game up and take a nine-run lead, 12-3
- Lynn got a run back in the bottom of the fifth
- Amaris Harrison walked, Mayberry doubled to right and Bryant Zayas drove in Harrison on a fielder's choice
- Reliever Brad Benton pitched a scoreless top of the sixth, ending the frame with a strikeout
- Lynn cut its deficit in half with four runs in the bottom of the sixth
- Mayberry's bases loaded triple scored Juan Carlos Camarena, Jesse Robinson and Harrison
- Zayas singled up the middle to score Mayberry put Lynn within four, 12-8, through six innings
- Benton again ended a scoreless inning of work with a strikeout in the seventh
- Lynn threatened with two runners in the seventh on singles by Judge and Shawn Dougherty but were unable to plate either runner
- Benton once again held Mount Olive scoreless in the eighth, finishing the inning with a looking strikeout
- Lynn stranded two runners in the bottom of the eighth and went down in order in the ninth for a 12-8 final
