Fighting Knights drop final home regular season match

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn women's soccer dropped a close 2-1 Sunshine State Conference match to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night at Bobby Campbell Stadium. Kayleigh Merchant scored for Lynn in a late push during the team's final home game of the regular season. 

The Fighting Knights are now 2-8-4 overall and 1-6-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Brisa Sastre starting the match with a shot on goal that saved at the 3:43 mark 
- Lynn keeper Emma Brunelli made a save in her first test at the eighth minute 
- Brunelli reached up to make a pair of saves in the 12th and 13th minutes to keep the match scoreless 
- Michaela Virgin kept possession and took a shot just wide of the net eight minutes later 
- Kendall Popp of the Sailfish scored two goals within three and half minutes of each other – both with the left foot to the bottom right of the goal – to give the road team a 2-0 advantage 
- Kiana Rhee-Osorio started the second half with a shot that went wide 
- Talia Stacy put a shot on goal off a corner kick in the 64th minute 
- In the 74th minute, Merchant controlled a cross from Tyler Vance and ripped a shot to the left of the keeper for a Lynn goal to cut the deficit to one, 2-1  
- In the closing minutes, Julia Hellenkamp and Arianna Kinsley looked to equalize but their shots went wide 
- Merchant and Kinsley each then had an opportunity off a corner kick in the 87th minute, but their shots inside the penalty area were blocked

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Merchant scored her first goal of the season, coming off the bench in the second half
- Arianna Kinsley earned her first assist of 2025
- Emma Brunelli recorded five saves, all in the first half
- Her save total rises to 72, the most in the SSC this year
- Brunelli averages 5.54 saves per game
- It was a back-and-forth contest as PBA outshot Lynn 13-4 in the first half, while Lynn outshot PBA 9-5 in the second
- This marks the first time since Oct. 13 2021 that Lynn has lost to PBA (1-0 at home)
- Lynn women's soccer holds an all-time record of 16-7-3 against Palm Beach Atlantic
