Fighting Knights take opener down to the wire in OT loss

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Lynn men's basketball began its season with a 96–93 overtime loss to Union (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Sports Center. The opener saw nine ties and 17 lead changes, and newcomer Justin Bubak led the Fighting Knights with 23 points in his debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Antoine Jacks knocked down a three for the first basket of the season for Lynn
- Bubak's dunk and Matthew Puodziukaitis' put-back gave the Fighting Knights a 7-0 lead
- Union answered with an 11–0 run to go ahead 17–13
- Austin Vick scored off a JP Baron feed to reclaim the lead at 19–18
- Frederiks Meinarts delivered an offensive rebound and tip-in, then hit a three to make it 35–31 with 4:09 left in the half
- A three at the buzzer by Union put the game ever at 41 heading into the break
- The Bulldogs jumped out to a six-point lead to start the second half
- Baskets by Max Polk, Sveinn Birgisson and Meinarts tied the game at 49
- Christian Maxon hit three-pointers on two occasions to give Lynn the lead, with the final three making the score 61-60 with 11:09 remaining
- Baron connected from deep to knot the game at 73
- Maxon's layup on a full court pass from Baron put Lynn ahead 81-79 with under three minutes left in regulation
- Baron's offensive board led to a three by Bubak for an 86-83 Lynn lead with 48 seconds left
- A traditional three-point play by the Bulldogs sent the game to overtime
- Jacks found Vick for a layup with 1:26 left in overtime to bring the Fighting Knights within one, 92-91
- Jacks penetrated and found Birgisson for another layup with 28 seconds remaining as Lynn trailed by one
- Union hit a pair of free throws and Lynn's final possession fell short to end the game

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- 22 of Lynn's 35 field goals were assisted, with Jacks having a game-high eight
- The Fighting Knights shot 40% from deep (14-for-35)
- Lynn led in rebounds (48-36), second-chance points (25-14) and bench points (37-23)
- Birgisson was a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds
- Maxon had 17 points and was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc
- Five of Puodziukaitis' eight rebounds were on the offensive end
