Softball battles in tough loss to No. 16 East Stroudsburg

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Lynn University softball team dropped a narrow loss to No. 16 East Stroudsburg in Miami Shores on Monday afternoon. The Blue and White led 4-1 through two innings before the Warriors battled back for a 6-4 win.
 
Lynn fell to 6-4 on the season while East Stroudsburg improved to 6-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Warriors loaded the bases in the top of the first only able to score one run as Madi Prickett was able to avoid any further damage with two strikeouts in the frame, 1-0.
  • Lynn gained a spark in the bottom of the second as Cameron Buzzell launched a two-run home run to take the lead in one swing, 2-1.
  • A double later in the second inning from Anabel O'Donnell set up a sacrifice fly from Kyleigh Hope that scored two more for the Fighting Knights, 4-1.
  • ESU responded quickly, scoring four runs on five hits to retake the lead in an instant in the top of the third, 5-4.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Lynn had the tying run just 90 feet away on third base with just one out on the board before suffering two quick outs to erase the opportunity.
  • East Stroudsburg added a run to their lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly, 6-4.
  • Lynn attempted to fight back as the Warriors forced a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh to seal the narrow victory, 6-4.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
  • Prickett suffered her first loss of the season, holding a firm 3-1 record on the year. The graduate student pitcher went six innings while retiring six batters and walking just one.
  • Buzzell's home run marks the second homer for the Fighting Knights in 2025 while it is her third as a member of the Blue and White.
  • Hope has recorded hits in her previous three starts at catcher while her 2 RBI mark the most for her in her young Lynn career.
  • Quinn Lockhart has recorded a hit in four of her last five starts as a designated player.
  • Aiyana Hicks continues to lead the Lynn speed threat, now leading the team with nine stolen bases.
 
UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights will host their first home series of the 2025 season against No. 10 Tampa beginning on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Spanish River Athletic Park in Boca Raton.
