Chappell’s season-high 19 points not enough in loss to Barry

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Channing Chappell put up a season-high 19 points in the tough 78-70 loss to Barry on Wednesday night. For the game, Chappell was 8-13 from the floor including going 2-6 from three-point range and 1-1 at the free-throw line.
 
Lynn dropped to 13-12 overall and 7-11 in Sunshine State Conference play while Barry improved to 17-8 and 10-7 in league play
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jess Knight got things rolling for the Fighting Knights, scoring the opening layup for Lynn at the 9:20 mark.
  • Lynn battled from behind early as a layup from Ella Fiore capped off a 6-0 run in favor of the Blue and White, 12-11.
  • Channing Chappell dropped in a layup at the 3:38 mark to give the Fighting Knights a 16-13 lead near the end of the first quarter.
  • Barry closed out the opening quarter by out-scoring Lynn, 11-4, to take a four-point edge heading into the second quarter.
  • The Bucs went on to take a commanding eight-point lead with just 3:36 remaining in the half following a jumper from Kyrstin Green.
  • The Fighting Knights stormed back on a 6-0 run, spearheaded by Fiore who scored four points in the run, 32-30.
  • With Lynn on the verge of retaking the lead, Barry rattled off three more points in the frame before heading into half-time with a five-point lead, 35-30.
  • The Buccaneers came out of the half on a 4-0 run which was cut short by Fiore, who sliced into Barry's lead, 39-32.
  • Around the half-way mark of the third, Danielle Montelbano sank two free-throws to make the contest a five-point affair, 43-38.
  • Barry went on the offensive, rallying for nine-straight points to take a 14-point lead with just under two minutes left to play in the third quarter, 52-38.
  • The Fighting Knights continued to battle back as Chappell knocked down a buzzer-beater three at the end of the third to cut the Bucs lead to just seven heading into the final frame of play, 57-50.
  • Out of the gate, Rachel Romich connected on a massive three-pointer to cut into Barry's lead, 57-53.
  • A three from Barry's Emma Wallhoff kickstarted a five-point run for the Bucs as Lynn trailed by nine with 7:34 left to play.
  • A layup from Montelbano and a three-pointer from Romich pulled Lynn back within four-points with 5:52 remaining.
  • The Buccaneers continued to maintain their distance, building up a 10-point lead in the blink of an eye with just under five minutes left to play.
  • Despite a valiant effort throughout the fourth quarter, Lynn ended up dropping a hard-fought contest by the final buzzer, 78-70.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
  • With Chappell's momentous game, she has officially passed the 500-point mark for her collegiate career.
  • Romich was a perfect 2-2 from deep range for six points in the game.
  • Fiore recorded her eighth game in a row with double-digit points (16 points vs Barry)
  • Fiore is just 28 points away from reaching the 1000 point mark in her career.
  • Montelbano has recorded five or more assists in each of her past five games (seven vs. Barry).
