Fighting Knights rally in sixth inning for 3-1 win over Washburn

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Lynn University baseball team claimed its third-straight victory of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon, defeating Washburn in a low-scoring 3-1 decision on Friday afternoon. The narrow victory came behind a stellar sixth inning in which the Blue and White rallied for all three of its runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame.

Lynn improved to 3-2 on the year while Washburn dropped to 1-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Justyn Hart got the start at pitcher for the Fighting Knights, allowing just one walk with three strikeouts in the first inning.
  • Washburn tallied the first hit of the game in the top of the second on a base knock to left field.
  • Shawn Dougherty recorded the first hit for Lynn in the bottom of the second on a hard-hit single to right field.
  • Washburn scored first on a pair of singles that made their way through the gaps in the top of the third to go up 1-0.
  • The Ichabod's starting pitcher Caden Bressler had only allowed one hit heading into the bottom of the sixth before giving up three that would change the game in an instant.
  • Blake Mayberry got the sixth inning hit parade going with a single blasted up the middle before the hot bat of Jesse Robinson banged a double off the wall, putting both Fighting Knights in scoring position.
  • Cole Fowler took a one-out walk to load the bases before Leon Paulino sliced a triple down the right field line to clear the bases and put Lynn up in an instant, 3-1.
  • The Fighting Knights allowed just one more hit in the game on a stand-up double in the top of ninth.
  • Reliever Hunter Shew closed out the game on a flyout, a strikeout and a groundout in the ninth to give Lynn its third victory of the early season.
