ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- The Lynn University women's basketball team fell in the final game of the 2024-25 regular season to Eckerd on Saturday afternoon, 65-54. The Fighting Knights were led by
Jess Knight, who tallied a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds on the afternoon.
Lynn finished the regular season 13-14 overall and 7-13 in conference play as it will assume the No. 7-seed in the Sunshine State Conference Championship tournament, beginning this Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Trinity Mocadlo opened the scoring for the Fighting Knights with a big-time three to cut into the Tritons' lead, 4-3.
- Ella Fiore tallied three points on a layup and a free-throw to tie the game up for the first time at 8-1 with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
- Eckerd went on a 10-0 run to take a 10 point lead over the Fighting Knights late in the first, 18-8.
- Free-throws from Mocadlo and Jess Knight pulled Lynn within six at the end of the first quarter, 18-12.
- Eckerd's Greta Carollo knocked down a three to cap off a 10-6 run for the Tritons as EC led with 2:15 remaining until half-time, 28-18.
- Fiore sank a last second free-throw to cut Eckerd's lead to nine at half-time, 30-21.
- The Tritons came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half, building up an 18-point lead following a three-pointer from Jaylen Ostenson, 44-26.
- The Fighting Knights would not go away quietly as a layup from Mocadlo chopped Eckerd's lead down to eight at the end of the third.
- Lynn continued to fight at the start of the fourth, but quickly faced an 11-point deficit with 5:18 left to play.
- Despite a fighting effort from the Blue and White late in the game, Lynn was not able to overcome the hot start to the second half from the Tritons, dropping the regular season finale, 65-54.
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Knight's double-double marks her seventh of the year as she recorded back-to-back double-doubles this week alone.
- Knight also recorded three blocks and three steals in the contest, marking her most steals this season.
- Mocadlo's three-pointer marks her 30th of the season, recording a "trey" in each of the last six games.
- Danielle Montelbano led the Fighting Knights in assists with three as she currently averages 4.4 per game.
