MELBOURNE, Fla. – Lynn lost a late lead to Florida Tech on Friday in the opening game of a three-game series, falling 7-6.
Jesse Robinson gave the Fighting Knights the lead in the top of the ninth with a two-out single, but the Panthers added a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the frame for the comeback win.
Lynn is now 12-10 overall this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers kick-started the scoring in the bottom of the second, picking up three runs on three hits and an error to go up 3-0.
- Jesse Robinson and the Fighting Knights struck back in the top of the third as Robinson laced an RBI single past the shortstop to score Amaris Harrison, 3-1.
- Florida Tech answered back with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to make it a three-run ballgame once again, 4-1.
- David Judge got the Lynn offense rolling once again in the top of the sixth, pulling a two-RBI double down the left field line to cut the Blue and White's deficit to one, 4-3.
- Ivan Herrera kept the inning rolling with a bases-clearing, two-RBI single to give the Fighting Knights the lead by the end of the frame, 5-4.
- Florida Tech responded with a bang, blasting a lead-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to knot the game up at 5-5 in a hurry.
- After Herrera walked to lead off the top of the ninth, Bryant Zayas pinch-ran, advanced to second on a sac bunt and stole third.
- Robinson knocked home Zayas with a two-out base hit to give the Fighting Knights a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth
- Following an error and double, the Panthers hit a two-out single to tie game and followed with another base-hit to win, 7-6
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn stole a season-high five bases
- Robinson went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two steals and now has multiple hits in four straight games and a team-leading seven steals
- Judge hit his 20th career double as a Fighting Knight
- Blake Mayberry walked three times and leads the team with a .437 OB%
- Herrera has five runs batted in over his last two games
- Lynn ended its nine-game home run streak
