Lynn sweeps Tech behind backstop production

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Lynn swept its Saturday doubleheader at Florida Tech, 7-6 and 8-5, to take the series and improve to 14-10 overall and 4-5 in the SSC.
 
The Fighting Knights offense was led by both of their catchers en route to the sweep, as Juan Carlos Camarena (game one) and Ivan Herrera (game two) each homered and drove in three runs in their respective starts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Cole Fowler hit a solo shot in the top of the first to give Lynn an early 1-0 lead
- Right fielder Shawn Dougherty threw out a runner trying to extend a single into a double and starting pitcher Ryan DiMaggio ended the second inning with a strikeout
- Tech tied the game in the bottom of the third on a leadoff walk and a double the next at bat
- Lynn scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a three-run lead
- Dougherty tripled to score Leon Paulino, who reached on a walk to lead off the frame
- Juan Carlos Camarena hit a two-run homer, scoring Dougherty for a 4-1 Lynn advantage 
- Blake Mayberry hit a two-out single and Jesse Robinson's double to the gap put the Blue and White up 5-1 through six and a half innings
- Florida Tech started the bottom of the seventh with four hits, leading to four runs and a tie game, 5-5
- Leon Paulino walked and advanced to third on Dougherty's single to start off the top of the eighth
- Amaris Harrison drove in Paulino with a sac fly as Lynn regained the lead
- Dougherty stole second and scored on Camarena's base hit up the middle for a 7-5 score
- The Panthers hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to climb within one, 7-6
- A line out, caught stealing from Camarena to Bryant Zayas and a pop out gave reliever Nathan Shane the save and Lynn the win
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Fowler hit his team-leading eighth home run
- Camarena hit his first homer of the year and went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI
- DiMaggio pitched six innings and allowed just one run on 81 pitches
- Shane now has five saves this season
- Mayberry posted his ninth multi-hit game of 2025
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Tech homered in the first inning to get on the board first
- Ivan Herrera hit a solo shot in the top of the second to tie the game
- The Panthers led off the bottom of the frame with a home run to take a 2-1 lead
- Lynn loaded the bases in the top of the third with a single by Mayberry, Robinson hit by pitch and Paulino base hit
- Lynn took the lead on a fielder's choice by Dougherty and Herrera reaching on an error for a score of 3-2
- Robinson smashed a two-run homer, scoring DJ Flowers for a 5-2 Lynn advantage through four innings
- Paulino hit a leadoff single and was driven in by David Judge in the top of the fifth for a four-run Fighting Knight lead
- Lynn loaded the bases in the seventh and scored a pair of runs on Herrera's single and a Judge hit by pitch for an 8-2 score
- A double play by the Fighting Knight defense ended the bottom of the seventh
- Tech scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth
- Devin Sweeney pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Hunter Shew picked up the win, tossing four innings of relief and allowing one run (zero earned)
- Robinson has a 10-game hitting streak and driven in a run in seven straight contests
- Herrera hit his first home run and has recorded multiple RBI in each of his last three games (8 total)
- Judge has multiple ribbies in two of his last three games
- Paulino went 3-for-5
- Dougherty has scored eight times in his last five games
