Men’s basketball NCAA South Regional preview

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn men's basketball is headed to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament after going 20-8 in head coach Bill Morosco's first season at the helm. The Fighting Knights earned a No. 5 seed in the South Regional tournament and will face No. 4 Valdosta State on Saturday at 7:30 pm at Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale.

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn's 20 wins are its most since reaching the Sweet 16 during the 2018-19 season
- 17 of Lynn's 20 wins were by at least 10 points and the team ranked 12th in the nation in scoring margin (12.7)
- The Fighting Knights have set a program record for three-pointers made in a season (369), including making a single-game record 21 threes in a win over Barry on Jan. 15
- The Blue and White have committed just 9.4 turnovers per game, ranking sixth in the country
- Coach Morosco's team ranks third in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (2.06) and fifth in assists per game (19.4)
- Carson Smith and Jordan Wilkins were the only teammates in the country to each average over three three-pointers made during the regular season
- Leo Beath was one of 10 players in Division II to post a triple-double, accomplishing the feat against Florida Tech on Feb. 12 (14 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists)
- Beath was named to the All-SSC First Team, averaging 18.1 points and 9.1 rebounds
- Smith earned All-SSC Second Team honors, leading the league in three-pointers (3.2) , while ranking second in assist/turnover ratio (3.2), third in three-point field goal percentage (41.2%), fifth in steals (1.9) and 13th in points (16.4)

- Sveinn Birgisson shot 91% (30-for-33) from the free throw line this season

- John Roland scored in double figures three times over his last eight games and is shooting 56% from the field this season
- Austin Vick reached double figures in rebounds three times and averages 12.6 rebounds per 40 minutes
- Noah Kattan has played in a career high 24 games and had a season-best 11 points at Rollins on Jan. 11
 
VALDOSTA STATE STATS:
- The Blazers went 25-6 and 18-4 in the Gulf South Conference and lost to UAH in the GSC Tournament Final
- Valdosta State ranked second in the nation in fastbreak points (25.58)
- VSU scored 93.8 points per game, ranking fifth in the country
- The Blazers forced 17.9 turnovers per game and ranked eighth in turnover margin (6.7)
- The team is led by All-GSC First Team guard Carlos Hart, who led the team in points (19.0), rebounds (6.7), assists (4.0) and steals (2.5)
- The Blazers posted 20 games of at least 10 steals
- Head coach Mike Helfer is in his 20th season at VSU and is making his ninth NCAA Tournament appearance with the team
