BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn fell late in its series opener against Florida Tech on Friday, 4-3. Starting pitcher
Madi Prickett allowed just one earned run and struck out nine batters in the loss. She is now 7-7 with a 1.92 ERA this season and has 100 strikeouts in 87.2 innings pitched.
Aun'Yale Howard tallied two hits and two steals for the Fighting Knights. Lynn is now 14-13 overall this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game started off tame until the top of the second as Florida Tech put two runners in scoring position early.
- Catcher Kylee Dodson made a great play, throwing a runner out at third before Prickett struck out the final batter to escape the inning unscathed.
- Kyra Sunga cashed in the first run of the game on an RBI single to give Lynn the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
- Onnalee Floriano kept the third inning rally rolling with a base knock to score Sunga and put the Fighting Knights up 2-0.
- The Panthers managed to get on the board in the top of the fifth, cutting the Lynn lead to just one, 2-1.
- With Florida Tech threatening, Floriano blasted a shot out to left before reaching third on a throwing error. She was later brought home on a sacrifice bunt from Teagan Riley.
- The Panthers roared back in top of the seventh, taking the lead on three hits and two errors.
- Three ground outs ended the game in favor of Tech, 4-3
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Howard raised her average to .346 and stole her 17th and 18th bases of the season
- Sunga has scored 21 runs this season and has driven in 23 runners
- Floriano has reached base safely in five of her last six plate appearances
- Prickett allowed just one earned run and has a 1.92 ERA this season
- Anabel O'Donnell has stolen a base in three of her last four contests
