Lynn rallies with seven-run fifth inning to topple No. 16 Rollins

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn baseball scored seven runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 12-10 win over No. 16 Rollins on Saturday afternoon. Shawn Dougherty was a single shy of the cycle in the win, scoring three times and driving in three runs, to help Lynn even the series.

The Fighting Knights are now 16-11 and 5-6 in the Sunshine State Conference while Rollins falls to 19-7 and 9-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Dougherty opened the scoring with a bang, blasting a lead-off home run to right-center to start the second inning
- Rollins answered back in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on two hits and a Lynn error to go up 4-1
- Lynn quickly rallied in the bottom of the fifth, starting with five consecutive singles from Amaris Harrison, Blake Mayberry, Jesse Robinson, Cole Fowler and Leon Paulino to bring in three runs
- The hot bat of Dougherty struck again, clearing the bases with a two-run triple to give the Blue and White the lead, 6-5
- The Fighting Knights were not done in the inning just yet as Dougherty made it home on a wild pitch before Blake Mayberry struck paydirt on a RBI single to score Juan Carlos Camarena and give Lynn an 8-5 lead by the end of the frame
- Camarena extended the Fighting Knight lead with a two-run double to give Lynn a 10-5 edge by the end of the sixth
- Rollins' offense picked back up in the eighth inning, adding a run on an RBI single
- The Blue and White loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth before Ahmir Cournier knocked in two more runs with a single to left
- Rollins attempted to rally in the ninth, scoring four runs and loading the bases before Nathan Shane and the Lynn defense locked down the final out on a lineout for a 12-10 final
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Brad Benton improved to 4-0 on the season (3.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO)
- Shane racked up his sixth save of the year
- Dougherty has reached base in nine of his 10 plate appearances this series (two games)
- Robinson has a 14-game hitting streak and is hitting .372 (23-for-62) over the stretch
- Fowler has scored 26 runs in 27 games played
- Paulino has 20 RBI in March (12 games) while Camarena has seven RBI over his last three contests
- The Fighting Knights recorded 15 hits and have 10+ hits in 10 of their last 11 games
