Softball closes out The Spring Games with Friday sweep

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Lynn University softball team closed out The Spring Games with a pair of dominant wins on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights first edged out a 9-6 win over Pittsburgh of Johnstown before shutting out Point Park in the closer, 6-0.
 
The Fighting Knights have improved to 13-11 on the year while they went a near-perfect 7-1 at the The Spring Games over the course of the week.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • The Mountain Cats jumped on top early, scoring via a sacrifice fly in the first frame, 1-0.
  • Kyra Sunga slashed a triple to score Aun'Yale Howard and put Lynn right back in the fight in the first, 1-1.
  • Later in the inning, a Mountain Cats error led to Lynn putting another run on the board, 2-1.
  • Anabel O'Donnell kept the order moving with a 2 RBI double to give the Blue and White a three-run cushion 4-1.
  • Kyleigh Hope brought another Fighting Knight home on an RBI single before Jordan Terefenko scored another run on a ground-out to put Lynn up 6-1 by the end of the first.
  • Pitt-Johnstown added a run on a single in the second to cut Lynn's lead to four, 6-2.
  • The Mountain Cats stormed back into the matchup on five hits in the fourth including two doubles to tie the contest up at an even 6-6.
  • The Fighting Knights, now tied after four innings, rallied on a 2 RBI single from Aiyana Hicks to regain the lead at 8-6.
  • Cameron Buzzell piled onto the Lynn lead with an RBI single to score Hicks, 9-6.
  • The game remained fairly quiet in the remaining innings as the Lynn defense allowed just three base-runners on the rest of the game.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (GAME 1):
  • Pitcher Kayley Zazzali (3-1) picked up the win for the Fighting Knights, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
  • Meanwhile, Gabriella Lindsey (1) earned the save, going three innings while allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
  • Sunga continued to make some noise at the plate, posting her fourth three-hit game of the 2025 season. She also recorded her second triple of the season.
  • Hicks also picked up a multi-hit game for her fourth of the season. She had two hits in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • O'Donnell got the Fighting Knights rolling early with a 2 RBI single to score both Hicks and Floriano, 2-0.
  • Ashlee Martinez kept the offense moving in the second inning, adding another run on an RBI single, 3-0.
  • The Fighting Knights added a couple more runs in the top of the third as Hicks and Sunga both made it home in a dash for home plate, 5-0.
  • Buzzell made it a six-run ball game on an RBI groundout in the sixth to score Quinn Lockhart, 6-0.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (GAME 2):
  • Pitcher Madi Prickett (6-6) went all seven innings, tallying nine strikeouts while allowing just two hits in her third shutout of the season.
  • Hicks recorded back-to-back multi-hit games tallying five total for the season.
  • Sunga blasted her 10th double of the year; she has 12 extra-base hits this season.
  • Three Fighting Knights including Hicks, Riley and O'Donnell all tallied more than two hits in the contest.
  • O'Donnell has doubled in back-to-back games.

The Fighting Knights return home for a non-conference double-header against Kutztown on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at 1 p.m.
