Fowler, Paulino power Fighting Knights to 8-7 victory over No.22 Molloy

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Lynn University baseball team escaped a ninth inning comeback against No. 22 Molloy in a 9-8 thriller on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Knights homered three times in the game including two home runs from senior Cole Fowler and a three-run shot from senior Leon Paulino.
 
The Fighting Knights improved to 10-9 on the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game started a bit quiet for the Fighting Knights until an offensive flurry broke out in the bottom of the third.
  • Jesse Robinson kicked off scoring in the frame, sending Blake Mayberry home with a double out to deep right, 1-0.
  • Cole Fowler blasted a no-doubt homer into left field to propel the Fighting Knights to a quick 3-0 advantage.
  • David Judge wrapped up the inning on an RBI single, scoring Leon Paulino to give Lynn a 4-0 cushion by the end of the third.
  • Molloy got on the board in the top of the fifth with a single through the left side to cut into the Blue and White lead, 4-1.
  • Fowler responded with a booming lead-off home run for his second homer of the game, 5-1.
  • Leon Paulino kept the Lynn offense rolling with a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to give the Fighting Knights an 8-1 advantage by the end of the frame.
  • The Lions began to strike back in the seventh, delivering a home run courtesy of Marsillo and an RBI single to make it an 8-3 ballgame.
  • Molloy continued to storm back in the ninth, racking up three runs, highlighted by a two-run home run from Welsh.
  • With one out and the bases loaded, reliever Chase Wills forced a quick two outs to close out the late Molloy rally, 8-7.
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
  • Pitcher Ryan DiMaggio (1-3) picked up his first win of the season, going six innings with six strikeouts. He allowed just one run on six combined hits and a walk.
  • Wills earned his first save of 2025, entering the game at an 8-6 ballgame in the ninth.
  • Fowler has amassed six home runs on the year including the two this afternoon. The third baseman has two games with two or more homers this season and four games in his career with two or more homers.
  • Fowler tallied three total hits on the afternoon, marking his third game of the year with three or more hits. He's currently on a 14-game hit streak.
  • Five total Lynn batters had multi-hit afternoons.
  • Mayberry continues to lead the team in doubles with nine on the year.
