Fowler hits for cycle in 15-2 rout of No. 6 Florida Southern

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University baseball team mounted a dominant 15-2 victory over sixth-ranked Florida Southern in the opening contest of a three-game Sunshine State Conference series, Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Knights were led by the bat of senior Cole Fowler, who hit for a cycle, going 4-5 at the dish with a single, double, triple and home run while driving in six runs. The Blue and White recorded a season-high nine extra-base hits in the game.
 
The Fighting Knights' sixth win in a row moved them 10 games above .500 at 24-14 overall and 13-9 in SSC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs struck early in the top of the first, rallying behind two hits and two walks to take a 2-0 lead
- The Fighting Knights answered back as leadoff hitter Blake Mayberry kick-started the Lynn offense with a single
- The hot bat of Fowler brought in the first run for the Blue and White with an RBI double to close out the first
- Lynn's offense remained alert in the bottom of the second as Mayberry blasted a two-run double off the right centerfield fence to give the Fighting Knights the 3-2 lead
- Fowler then hit a 2 RBI triple to score two more before the big bat of Leon Paulino put Lynn up 7-2 with a two-run homer
- Bryant Zayas kept the offense humming in the third with a two-run shot to build up a 9-2 cushion
- Fowler opened the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run as the Lynn lead grew to nine, 11-2
- David Judge capped off the fourth with a sacrifice fly for a 10-run margin
- In the bottom of the sixth, Judge added on with a double down the line for a 13-2 lead
- Fowler completed the coveted cycle with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give Lynn a 14-2 cushion
- The Fighting Knights quickly loaded the bases in the seventh as Cole Beck took a bases-loaded walk to conclude the frame with Lynn up 15-2
- Reliever Alfonso Lombardi closed out the game in the top of the ninth with two quick strikeouts and a fly-out to secure the 15-2 win for the Fighting Knights

- Over the last four games, Fowler has tallied seven extra-base hits including three doubles, a triple and three home runs
- Fowler is currently tied for first in the SSC in home runs (12) and hits (67)
- Fowler has a league-best .736 slugging percentage and 120 total bases
- Including this game, the Fighting Knights have recorded four games with three or more home runs this spring
- Lynn tallied 15 total hits in the game and has collected 76 total hits since the start of April
- Brad Benton (7-0) picked up his seventh win of the year, going 4.1 innings while allowing no runs with two strikeouts
