Softball completes SSC series sweep of Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Lynn University softball team capped off a successful weekend, completing a three-game series sweep of Florida Southern on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights concluded the series with a 3-0 shut-out over the Mocs on Friday morning before winning a gritty 3-2 thriller in the series finale.
 
With the pair of wins, Lynn advanced to 20-24 and 6-18 in Sunshine State Conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Fighting Knights jumped out front first as Kyra Sunga and Teagan Riley tallied back-to-back hits in the first
- Sunga then crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Blue and White on the board early, 1-0
- The watchful eye of Sunga scored another in the second, taking a bases-loaded walk to put Lynn up by two, 2-0
- Anabel O'Donnell added another run in the sixth, capitalizing off a FSC miscue to cross home plate and give the Blue and White a 3-0 lead
- Pitcher Gabriella Lindsey and the Lynn defense closed out the game in seventh to secure the 3-0 shut-out victory
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Lindsey (6-9) went all seven innings, for her first complete game shut-out of the season
- She allowed just four hits in the game with three strikeouts
- Sunga and Riley have recorded three hits against the Mocs including their first inning singles
- Quinn Lockhart tallied her 16th stolen base of the season as the Fighting Knights surpassed 120 stolen bags as a unit
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- The Fighting Knights picked up where they left off in game one of the afternoon, scoring in the top of the second as O'Donnell stole home to give Lynn its first lead of the contest, 1-0
- Later in the second, Aun'Yale Howard scored Onnalee Floriano from third on a ground-out to propel the Blue and White lead out to 2-0
- After a few scoreless innings, Marina Goins added on in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to boost the Fighting Knights to a 3-0 lead
- The Mocs tried to strike back in the seventh, rallying for two runs on two hits
- However, pitcher Madi Prickett and the Lynn defense battened down the hatches to get out of the late jam and cap off the weekend with a win, 3-2
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Prickett (11-14) picked up her 11th win of the season, striking out four while allowing just two runs on seven hits
- As it stands, Prickett leads the SSC in strikeouts looking (42) while she is second overall in strikeouts (151)
- Kyleigh Hope recorded her best game at the plate this season, racking up three hits, a run and a stolen base in the win
- O'Donnell also had a multi-hit game with two hits including a double while Kylee Dodson also rallied for two hits
- Aiyana Hicks finished off a stellar weekend with five total hits over the course of the three-game stretch

The Lynn softball team is set to return home for the final home series of the 2025 regular season as the Fighting Knights host Saint Leo for an SSC showdown. Action kicks off on Friday, Apr. 25 at 6:00 p.m.
