Fighting Knights cap off 2025 home slate with senior day victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn University softball team closed out its remainder of 2025 home games on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader split against No. 14 Saint Leo. The Fighting Knights dropped the opener 9-0 before bouncing back for a thrilling 7-6 victory in the series finale.
 
Heading into the final weekend of regular season play, Lynn sits at 21-26 overall and 7-20 in Sunshine State Conference play.
 
Prior to gametime, Lynn honored its senior class which featured five key Fighting Knight graduates including Madi Prickett, Kyra Sunga, Cameron Buzzell, Sofia Jimenez and Kristina Leone.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Pitcher Gabriella Lindsey held the Lions at bay for the first two innings, giving up no runs while standing two on base
- Saint Leo pounced in the top of the third, stringing together three base hits to take a 2-0 lead
- The Lions grew their lead to 6-0 with four hits in the fourth including two doubles, 6-0
- Aun'Yale Howard broke the hitless streak in the bottom of the fourth with a base knock up the middle and a stolen base
- SLU took a 9-0 lead in the top of the fifth with three runs on three hits and a Lynn error
- Marina Goins opened up the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off triple but the Blue and White offense was unable to capitalize as Lynn dropped the doubleheader opener in five innings, 9-0
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Lindsey went 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts
- Kayley Zazzali closed out the final 1.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits
- Howard has tallied a hit in each of her last three starts for a total of four knocks
- She currently lead the team with 34 stolen bases
- Goins has recorded a hit in each of her last four starts while her triple marks her second of 2025
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Saint Leo opened the scoring in the second game of the day, taking a 2-0 lead on a 2-RBI double in the top of the second
- Lynn answered back in the bottom of the frame as Cameron Buzzell earned an RBI on a Lions fielding error, 2-1
- The Lions retook its two-run lead in the top of the third, cashing in a one-out triple on a sacrifice fly to go up 3-1
- The Blue and White fought back with a big four-run inning in the bottom of the third
- Following a SLU throwing error and a walk, Onnalee Floriano blasted a booming 2-RBI double to knot things up in a flash at 3-3
- Following another Lynn walk, Teagan Riley plated two more runs on a 2-RBI single to give the Blue and White its first lead of the day, 5-3
- Saint Leo went on to tie the game up a 5-5 following a two-run homer in the top of the fifth before taking the lead on an RBI ground-out in the sixth, 6-5
- The Fighting Knights pieced together two consecutive hits to open the bottom of the sixth before Kyleigh Hope delivered in a big way in the sixth, racking up two RBI on a hard-hit single up the middle to give Lynn back its lead, 7-6
- Prickett delivered one last time in Boca, carving up the Saint Leo offense to secure the victory in favor of the Fighting Knights, 7-6
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Prickett picked up her 12th win of the season, going all seven innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits
- She struck out five batters while walking two
- Prickett remains second in the SSC in strikeouts (160) and first in batters struck out looking (46) in 2025.
- Both Floriano and Riley pieced up two-hit games in the win
- Floriano recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the year with her third double of the season
- Riley tacked on her 11th multi-hit game of the spring while she leads the team with 26 RBI in 2025
- Hope's clutch sixth-inning hit marks the 25th of her freshman season while she has racked up six hits over the past week
 
UP NEXT:
- The Fighting Knights will head to Nova Southeastern on May 1 for the final series of the regular season with action kicking off at 6:00 p.m.
